Rodriguez, also known as Sugar Man was in South Africa a while ago. Unbeknown to him, he was one of the biggest music influences in South Africa in the 1970’s. The movie Searching for Sugar Man has won the prize for Best International Documentary at the 10th Beefeater In-Edit music documentary festival in Barcelona and has also been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
The few moments I had to photograph him was a privilege. Its not every day that you meet someone who has been humbled by circumstance, having not being recognized in his own country for his music, but somehow influenced a whole generation of youth in another country with the same music.
